Update 2: Here are 2 EFI folders from the comments. I haven’t tested these, all credits to the commenters. Thanks!

Update: The macOS Sierra 10.12.4 update breaks backlight brightness control. See below for fixes.

Just in time for April Fools’ day, got a new hackintosh working. And this one even looks like a MacBook Pro!

I present to you, the EliteBook “Pro” (9470m).

EliteBook “Pro” 9470m. Please excuse the messy desktop icons.

The EliteBook 9470m was, if I recall correctly, HP’s second Ultrabook, and their first true “Enterprise” Ultrabook – that is, one with docking capability and easy field repairability . You can find a full review over at NotebookCheck.net.  It was pretty popular with businesses who wanted to give their employees a more affordable and more IT-friendly “MacBook-like” device. Also, it was released back in late 2012, which is just over 4 years ago as of this writing. (Crazy! Time flies.) This means that they can be had relatively cheap in the off-lease market today, as the typical computer lease is between 3-5 years. My local computer store is selling them for under $400, which is a pretty good value in my opinion.

These days, installing macOS is relatively easy compared to 10-12 years ago when I first started messing with Hackintosh/OSx86, so I’ll just post my Clover “EFI” folder which should get you booted into macOS Sierra on the 1366×768 version of the 9470m. I did also swap out the Intel WiFi card for a Dell DW 1510 which works out-of-the-box.

Download my Clover EFI folder (zip 19MB): EFI 3  See below for 10.12.4 brightness fix

Working:

  • Internal graphics with full acceleration, brightness control using scroll lock/pause-break keys
  • Sound via VoodooHDA (built-in mic, speakers as well as TRRS headset jack. Volume and Mute fix in Info.plist necessary)
  • Touchpad with 2-finger scroll
  • Internal PS/2 keyboard
  • 3 USB 3.0 ports
  • Wired gigabit Ethernet
  • WiFi (replacement DW 1510 Broadcom card)
  • Built-in webcam

Not working:

  • Sleep (wakes up instantly)
  • Original Intel 6235 WiFi + Bluetooth
  • TrackPoint/Nub/Nipple mouse
  • Validity Fingerprint reader
  • WiFi on/off button

Not tested (yet):

  • Docking
  • VGA-out
  • DisplayPort-out
  • HDMI Audio
  • SD Card Reader

I will updated the lists as I test more things.

Main reference for this was RehabMan’s Elitebook guide.

@JDoe, Dual boot on separate drive is possible. But it is not necessary. Dual boot can be configured on one ssd drive as follows:
    https://hackintosher.com/guides/dual-boot-macos-drive-windows-10-already-installed-shared-drive/
    Or
    https://hackintosher.com/guides/hackintosh-dual-boot-windows-10-and-macos-high-sierra/

    Checkout ssd price trend https://www.anandtech.com/show/9799/best-ssds
the price of per gb for m2 drive and 2.5″ drive is near price parity. But SATA is the technical bottleneck for performance. Moreover, there are not many choice of m2 ssd.
I chose to install Win10 as guest OS on a virtualbox installed on MacOS Mojave.

      Hi,

I just installed High Sierra on my 9470m but the it defaulted to MacBook Air. Does it make a difference weather its a MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro or in your case iMac?

This is how to Fix kernelcache n prohibition symbol starting Mojave
    sudo rm -r /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches
This deletes all kext caches. Then run:
    sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions
    sudo kextcache -update-volume /
    This rebuilds your caches.

I was on 10.14.3 but for example youtube was using high cpu 2.25+ (Battery kill in 1 hour) while in windows 0.9 – 1.3 ghz.

So i back to 10.14.0 and was fine.
Can someone show cpu usage while watching videos in 10.14.4 ?

Kev: i havent dock or WQHD display for test.
In laptop screen i managed to change resolution (scaling)(dunno if will work for your screen as native resolution) :
    1) Enable HiDPI
    2) /system/…../Displays/(DISPLAYID)/ Edit .plist and add the double resolution Ex: 1280X720 -> 2560×1440.
Press Option key for show all resolutions.

My 9470m with Catalina on OpenCore is stable. But the Big Sur version with Micropatcher occasionally has kernel panic when booting up. I need to investigate this further.
My advice is to create two APFS containers: one for Catalina and another for Big Sur which require at least 60GB. My EFI are here:

Thank u, i will try your EFI config, my 9470M with Bigsur is lag. With Catalina 10.15.7 it’s ok.

My workaround for the occasional Big Sur kernel panic is to reset NVRAM then boot to Big Sur. Are yours working?

HP 840 G3 100% working on Monterey. Somehow there is no AppleALC 1.6.2 kext to test.
So, the workaround is to include -alcbeta in boot-args

I successfully clean installed my HP9470m to Monterey 12.3.1. But apps like WhatsApp and VS Code crashed and battery management is not working.

One step forward, two steps back.
So, I clean installed Monterey 12.2.1 instead.
